Microsoft Office Course Descriptions

Microsoft Access 2007 is relational database software that runs on the Windows operating system. This hands-on course will provide students with the ability to learn how to maintain and manage data, examine basic database concepts, create and modify databases and the use of various objects contained within the application.

Microsoft Excel 2007 is an electronic spreadsheet program that allows users to perform numerical calculations and bookkeeping tasks through the analysis and manipulation of data. This hands-on course will cover basic, intermediate and advanced functions. Students will also create and modify charts, learn about analytical features, running and recording macros, and sharing Excel data via the Web.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 is a program used to create presentations. In this hands-on course students will create new presentations that include text, graphics, WordArt, tables, charts, and diagrams. They will also edit and format slide content, and apply transition effects. Students will learn how to apply design templates, themes, and utilize various types of special effects.

Microsoft Publisher 2007 is a desktop publishing application that is utilized in the creation of flyers, newsletters, brochures, business cards and pamphlets. This course teaches students the core features and functions of Publisher 2007. Students will learn how to create and edit publications, arrange text and pictures, work with master pages, and create and format tables.

Microsoft Word 2007 is a word processing program which allows users to create a variety of document types including but not limited to; letters, reports, flyers, newsletters, and/or forms. This class provides students the hands-on experience and perspective as practiced in most businesses. Students progress at a self-determined pace to advanced levels. Word 2007 features allow users the ability to produce documents that provide consistency through the use of templates and Quick Parts, implementing professionalism and efficiency throughout the document creating process.

Computer Software Applications

Chaffey Adult School is offering a variety of computer technology courses that enable students to compete in the current office environment. All classes are open-entry, instructor guided and tutorial based. Courses are geared toward preparation for the MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) Exam. Our courses include Keyboarding I & II, Computer Competency, Computer Applications I, Word Processing I and II, Spreadsheets I and II, Database Applications, Presentations Applications and Publication Software, all based on Microsoft Office 2007. Day and Evening classes are available and students must meet the prerequisites for each of the courses.

The fee for each module is $40 plus a $5 materials fee. Typing Certificates are available for non-students for a fee of $25. Call for an appointment.

Computer Graphics - Adobe Photoshop

In this "independent lab" learning environment you will learn the most important topics of Adobe Photoshop CS5. You will first learn how to get started with Photoshop. Next, you will learn how to work with layers, make selections, incorporate color techniques, and place type in an image. You will then focus on using painting tools, working with special layer functions, creating special effects with filters, using Vanishing Point, and enhancing specific selections. Finally, you will learn about adjusting colors, using clipping marks, paths, and shapes, transforming type, liquifying an image, performing image surgery, annotating and automating an image, creating images for the Web, and working with animation, and video. You will also work with electronic photos and image application,s and have the opportunity to work with personal photos/images as well.
